Recalled judge
- A term used in the federal judiciary to describe a magistrate judge, bankruptcy judge, or judge of the Court of Federal Claims who returns to duty after retirement for a specific term. (Not to be confused with state judges who are removed through recall elections.)
- When the retired bankruptcy judge returned to duty for a year, he was known as a recalled judge.
- The chief judge asked the retired magistrate judge to serve temporarily as a recalled judge to help clear a backlog of civil discovery disputes.
- A federal recalled judge voluntarily returns to duty, while a state judge who faces a recall is involuntarily forced to leave.
